TAHOKA – Tahoka City Council voted 3-2 Monday to call for a special election on Nov. 2 for voters to consider a $4.5 million street bond project. Council members Ray Box, Shiloh Braddock and Courtney Stennett voted in favor of a motion calling for the election, and council members Ronny Jolly and Ryan Curry voted against the motion.
Kamryn Pepper, daughter of Kevin and Michelle Pepper, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Communications from Texas Tech University on Aug. 7. Earning the highest grade point average in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources with a 4.0, Kamryn was the banner bearer for the college. BROWNFIELD – The Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation (BIDCorp) held its monthly board meeting and heard a request from Brownfield Independent School District (BISD) Superintendent Chris Smith for a Workforce Development Grant with BISD and Lubbock Economic Development Alliance.
Dawson County’s 4-H program will be having an enrollment party on Aug. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. All potential new and existing members are welcome to attend and get registered for the 2021-2022 year.
SEMINOLE – The U.S. Census numbers for 2020 have been released. According to the latest figures, Gaines County has increased its population by 23.23 percent. In 2010, the people of Gaines County totaled 17,526 residents. The 2020 numbers reached 21,598.
West Texas Opportunities, Inc. will be holding an annual public hearing this coming Thursday on its Community Service Block Grant.
ANDREWS – State Rep. Brooks Landgraf filed a bill in the House this week that would prevent high-level radioactive waste from coming to Waste Control Specialists’ site in Andrews County.
SNYDER – Scurry County Commissioners voted to let Sheriff Trey Wilson hire three additional jailers in order to use the third pod at the Scurry County Jail and potentially generate additional revenue for the county through housing out-of-county inmates.
