Dawson County officials are still tallying the damage to county-owned facilities resulting from the June 26 storm which hit Lamesa with high winds, hail, heavy rain and flooding.
After practically disappearing during the months after COVID-19 hit here last spring, oil exploration activity here is now making a strong comeback.

Until the COVID-19 outbreak last year, Lamesa High School had an open campus policy which allowed students to leave school grounds to eat lunch elsewhere if they desired.
Like other governmental entities, Lamesa school officials are waiting for certified property values to be released by the appraisal district on July 25 before finalizing their 2021-2022 budget.
