While the number of active COVID-19 cases here continues to increase, the percentage of local residents who are fully vaccinated against the virus has risen little during the past six weeks.
Football players in Lamesa and across the state got back on the fields this past Monday, the first day of high school practice allowed in Texas by the University Interscholastic League. The cab of an 18-wheeler is wedged beneath electrical transformers and between two utility poles following a collision before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of State Highway 137 and FM 828 south of Lamesa. The truck, carrying two canisters of sand, reportedly was heading west on FM 828 and collided with a welding truck which was going south on Hwy. 137. From the damage at the scene it appeared someone easily could have been killed in a collision involving a sand-hauling truck and a welding truck south of Lamesa early Tuesday morning.
With the school year beginning in less than two weeks, the South Plains Public Health District (SPPHD) medical staff is hosting five COVID-19 vaccination clinics across the district.
