Lamesa fi refi ghters Chris Rose and Steven Archer pull down smoldering branches surrounding a vacant house that burned to the ground before daylight Monday morning in the 200 block of S.E. Gary Ave. With the building already on the ground, the branches were pushed into the fi re so they could go ahead and burn to prevent them from catching on fi re later and possibly allowing wind to spread the fl ames to dry grass in the surrounding area. Graveside service for Ava Lee Hallmark, 90, of Lamesa will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Dawson County Cemetery with Pastor Ben Phipps and Stephen Gary officiating.

Traversing on and across N. 4th St. (Highway 180) through Lamesa got even more challenging this past week as work to reconstruct the roadway moved all the way to Dallas Ave. Construction crews began ripping up the pavement on the south side of the street as more orange barrels and barricades went up and new roadway striping was put down on both N. 4th St. and Dallas Ave. LPR photo
