Lamesa High School junior Karmelo Reyes and senior Zoey Trevino took top billing in Monday’s District 3-3A Tennis Tournament at Brownfield.“It’s probably been right at 20 years since we’ve had a district champion in tennis and now we’ve got two of them,” said Coach Jose Lucio.Reyes is heading back to regionals as the District 3-3A boys singles champ. Last year, Reyes reached regionals as the district runner-up.After getting a first round bye, Reyes beat Denver City’s Martin Gonzales, 6-1, 6-0, and then Brownfield’s Blake Brisdendine, 6-4 and 6-1, in the finals.“Karmelo just played amazing! Nothing got past him,” Lucio said.
