The Sands Mustangs are now 5-1 on the year after winning two out of their first three games in this week’s Abernathy Tournament. The Mustang girls opened the tournament with a 45-31 victory over Sudan Thursday morning. “This was probably the best game we’ve played so far this season. We were able to jump on them pretty quick. We played good defense, too,” Sands Coach Ben Connell said. Lili Porras had 13 points to lead the Mustangs while Me-A Gonzalez and Yesenia Reyna had nine points each. Sands led 26-11 at half.
