ANDREWS – A fire department spokesman and county justice of the peace agreed that March 15’s horrific vehicle crash nine miles east of Andrews was the most catastrophic here in recent memory, if not ever.Nine people were killed in the crash, including seven from the University of the Southwest’s golf program and two from a pickup that struck the van head-on after experiencing a tire failure that caused it to veer into the opposite lane of FM 1788 just north of State Highway 115.Both the Dodge pickup and 17-passenger Ford van caught fire following the impact and burned.Veteran fire department ...
