Former Lamesa City Manager Fred Vera apparently will succeed Marie Briseno as the District 2 representative on the Lamesa City Council. Vera had been scheduled to face Lydia Aguilar in an election which originally was planned this past spring but postponed until the November general election due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Aguilar, however, submitted a certificate of withdrawal on Aug. 13, according to City Secretary Betty Conde. As a result of that action, council members are scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to cancel the Nov. 3 uncontested election for city council.
