Currently there are no active cases of COVID-19 among offender at the Preston E. Smith state prison unit here but the virus is believed to have been a contributing factor in the deaths of two inmates from the unit in recent months. That’s according to information on the Texas Deparmtent of Criminal Justice’s website. As of Friday night that website was showing two active cases of COVID-19 among employees at the unit.
