The formal hiring of Layne Sheets as superintendent of the Dawson ISD was approved in a called board meeting held Tuesday night at the school in Welch. Sheets, a teacher and coach at Lubbock Coronado High School, was named as the lone finalist for superintendent in March. By state law, the school board had to wait 21 days before it officially could offer Sheets a contract. In Tuesday’s called meeting, the board approved a two-year contract with Sheets as superintendent.
