Since the 2023-2024 academic year began a month ago, area school districts are seeing changes in the number of students attending their classes.The number of Lamesa school district students experienced a huge surge in numbers. An estimated 70 additional students enrolled into classes within the past month.The district reached the 1,500 mile marker Thursday when school officials updated school board members on enrollment figures.“We have not been at that in a long time,” said School Superintendent David Ritchey.When the new academic year began Aug. 16, there were just 1,430 total students.There are 382 students currently enrolled in South Elementary School.
