Lamesa schools have been experiencing a higher attendance rate a week after officials canceled two days of school when 25-percent of staff and students missed school due to illness or quarantining.The district’s attendance rate was at 86-percent on Tuesday morning, Superintendent Jim Knight said.It usually is about 93-percent.Before COVID-19’s arrival, the school district had an attendance rate of 95-97 percent, said Liz Oaks, the school’s chief financial officer.“We were in the low 70s before the Martin King (holiday),” Oaks said.Students and staff were out of school Jan. 17 for that holiday.School officials canceled classes Jan. 14 and Jan. 18 because ...
