The financial picture is looking brighter for both Lamesa and Dawson County after they experienced increases in their May sales tax allocation from the Texas Comptroller’s Office in Austin. Merchants collect both local and state sales taxes on sales to customers. That tax revenue is sent to the comptroller’s office, which each month rebates the local portion back to the city, county or other entity for which it was collected.
