Lamesa residents not only felt the shaking from an earthquake near Midland Friday evening but apparently had their nerves somewhat rattled by the event as well.“We got a lot of calls,” Lamesa Police Chief Josh Peterson said about 45 minutes after the event.“Everybody was calling and asking if it was an explosion or what.”The U.S. Geological Service’s National Earthquake Information Center (NCIS) reported the earthquake occurred at 5:35 about 5.4 miles north-northwest of Midland.That would put it about 45-50 miles south-southeast of Lamesa.Initially reported at a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale, it was upgraded a short time later ...
