The Preston Smith Unit’s search for workers and prison guards is undergoing a few changes.There’s still the application process everybody goes through in applying for a job.But instead of correctional officers having to go to Plainview to attend the academy, they will be able to prepare for their careers right at the prison unit located at 1313 County Road 19.Applications are now being accepted for food service managers, along with a maintenance supervisor that comes with a $5,000 sign up bonus.For correctional officers, the next academy is being conducted on Sept. 20.“I just want to let everybody know to get ...
