A new elective class being offered to Lamesa High School juniors and seniors starting this fall will not only help solve the shortage of referees at school sporting events, but also give students a highly-paid skill they can use after graduation.Superintendent David Ritchey informed Lamesa school board members Thursday about the Texas Education Agency’s offer to allow schools throughout the state to train high school students to referee home and out-of-town games.The board approved implementing the innovative course, offering the program only to high school juniors and seniors.
