Lamesa City Council member Doug Morris is the first candidate to file as a candidate in the May 7 election for the position of city mayor.Morris filed Monday. No other potential candidates have picked up candidacy packets or filed applications in City Hall, City Secretary Betty Conde said Wednesday morning.The mayor’s at-large seat, currently occupied by Josh Stevens, is the only position on the spring ballot.The filing period for the upcoming election ends Feb. 19.Morris is in his second term on city council representing District 6.
