Dawson County continues to be an area of interest for oil exploration companies, as six permits have been issued in the past seven weeks for oil drilling activity in the county.Permits were recently issued to Houston-based Callon Petroleum Operating for a trio of horizontal wells about two miles east of Ackerly.The surface location for all three wells – the Chaparral Unit A5 Nos. 5AH, 13 SH, and 19-17 – will be near the southeastern corner of Dawson County.
