In a special noon meeting Monday, Lamesa Independent School District (LISD) board members agreed to apply for federal funds to offset the cost of 380 new computers. The computers, benefitting both teachers and students, will replace outdated computers. LISD Chief Financial Officer Liz Poage told the board the district must apply for part of the $420 million in remaining federal dollars allocated to Texas Education Agency for COVID-19 relief. Those dollars can only go to qualifying school districts for laptops, hotspots, tablets and Chromebooks. If approved for funding, the district would be eligible for $380,000 in TEA funding.
