Lamesa City Council members took the next step Tuesday in expanding the municipal landfill after agreeing to advertise for bids for the excavation and lining of Cell 5 at the existing landfill.A landfill cell is an excavated area to accommodate solid waste.City officials began last year in plans of expanding the landfill amid concerns it is running out of room to accept municipal garbage.The extension project will focus on the landfill’s western section.Officials first estimated the expansion would cost about $2.1 million.
