A state prison inmate will be spending an additional six years behind bars for assaulting a correctional officer at the Smith Unit here in 2018. Tamarick Jackson, age 24, pleaded guilty in 106th District Court here this past Thursday to a charge of assault on a public servant. Senior Judge Cecil Puryear, serving here by assignment, assessed Jackson the six-year prison sentence and ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine as part of a plea-bargain agreement, according to court records.
