A state prison inmate will be spending a few more years behind bars after being convicted here earlier this month on two charges of possessing illegal items inside the Smith Unit. Shawn Lewis Barrett, age 34, pleaded guilty in 106th District Court on Dec. 9 to charges of possession of a deadly weapon in a penal institution and prohibited substance in a correctional facility.
