Although the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce announced last Friday it was canceling its other Independence Day festivities planned here, the big public fireworks display is still on the schedule for Saturday evening. As usual, that display will be ignited from the Lamesa rodeo grounds just east of Forrest Park and will begin just after dark. Hundreds of people normally attend the event, which in the past has been the finale to a full day of activities in the park.
