Fire hits another empty building

Lamesa firefighters battled a blaze Saturday night that erupted in a vacant house just a few blocks from the location of several other fires in similar situations over the past few weeks.The latest blaze, reported about 8:15 p.m., did significant damage to a wood-frame house in the 1300 block of N. 4th St.“It started as a trash fire in the basement,” Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck said. “It burned up through the wood floor from that basement.”Flames were already erupting from the roof of the building when firefighters arrived.Although the building was considered vacant and abandoned, there was some initial ...
