Two longtime residents of Welch were able to escape safety after awakening early Tuesday morning to discover their home on fire.Their home, however, was destroyed by the blaze, with only the east end of the residence left standing.“What wasn’t burned up was smoked up really bad,” said Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck.Firefighters from both Welch and Lamesa responded to the blaze, which was reported about 1:45 a.m. at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Rafoey Rodriquez.Although Welch volunteer firefighters arrived at the scene first and began attacking the blaze, flames could be seen from several miles away as Lamesa firefighters ...
