It was a pretty quiet Fourth of July for the Lamesa Fire Department, at least when compared to past celebrations which include the use of pyrotechnics.Only three dumpster fires and one vehicle fire were blamed on fireworks during the long weekend celebrations, said Fire Chief Larry Duyck. All of the fires, occurring within city boundaries, were the result of spent fireworks re-igniting during disposal.The dumpster fires were lit after partiers apparently threw away their spent fireworks into commercial dumpsters.
