The Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting Fourth of July festivities a day earlier on July 3 at Forrest Park as a way to honor America’s birthday along with dedicating the night’s fireworks display to a fallen deputy. Eden County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Samuel Leonard, 26, who grew up here and worked for the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department, had intended to light the evening’s fireworks show.
