A dedication ceremony honoring a South Elementary School teacher is being held at 2:15 p.m. Friday in the school’s cafeteria.First grade teacher Sylvia Arteaga Hernandez, 59, was killed Aug. 21 in Buddy Holly Park in Lubbock.“She was incredibly kind, incredibly sweet; made great connections with our kids,” said school Principal Joey Hannaway.“We want to honor her memory and the impact that she had on hundreds of kids,” A plaque, presented during the ceremony, will be hung in the school’s main office.Hernandez had worked at other districts before coming here to teach.
