Dawson County’s populaton dropped by almost 300 people between July of 2021 and July 2022.That’s according to annual population estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.The report estimates Dawson County’s total population at 12,130 as of July 1, 2022.That is down from 12,412 in the July 2021 estimate and 12,473 in July 2023.Of the 254 counties in Texas, Dawson County ranks 153rd in total population.County Judge Foy O’Brien said the decrease in population didn’t surprise him.“That’s been the trend the past several years,” he said.Although Dawson County is seeing an uptick in oilfield activity that has helped the local ...
