Dawson County Voter Registrar Sylvia Ortiz can’t say there’s a line of residents wanting to sign up to vote before the May 1 local elections. “We haven’t had a lot,” Ortiz said. Her office collected about 12-15 new voters. The county currently has 6,876 registered voters, Ortiz said. The deadline for new voters to register to vote is 30 days before the election. That means it falls on April 1 or April Fool’s Day. Ortiz reported that about 10-15 new voters signed up for the civic duty.
