I have been traveling across Colorado at least once a year for the last 42 years. One of the U.S. Highways I frequent is U.S. 50. It runs east west from Lamar to Grand Junction. The road follows the Arkansas River back to its source near Salida. Near La Junta is a National Historic Site called Old Bent’s Fort which during the pioneer days of the 1800s served as a trading supply store for ranchers, miners, farmers and Indians.
