The Klondike Cougars’ volleyball team got its 17th match victory of this season this past Tuesday evening at Colorado City where they spiked the 3A Wolves, 25-21, 25-12 and 2518.
A rather jittery start didn’t keep the Golden Tornado volleyballers from writing a successful first chapter to Golden Tornado volleyball history. By winning the first match ever in the new Lamesa High School gym Tuesday, they did just that, but they had to go the distance to do so.
After coming out on the short end in this fall’s first four district team tennis matches the Golden Tornadoes reached that point where they were about ready to try anything to turn around their luck Tuesday evening at Levelland.

The Denver City Fillies are one of the top ranked Class 3A high school volleyball teams in the state and apparently their junior high girls aren’t too shabby either.
Less than a month remains until a much-anticipated annular solar eclipse graces Texas skies. On Saturday, October 14, an annular eclipse will pass over the state from Midland/Odessa to Corpus Christi, with 17 Texas State Parks along its path of greatest eclipse visibility. Visitors planning to visit state parks along the path are highly encouraged to reserve a day pass in advance since they will likely reach capacity.
The Klondike Cougars went into last Friday night’s six-man football game against Sands at Jim and Pat Nance Field as big 45-point favorites but needed a big fourth quarter to hold off the stubborn Mustangs, 86-56.
A big fourth quarter rally last Friday night at Wilson helped the O’Donnell Eagles soar past the Lubbock Titans, 54-32.
