Last weekend when sophomore Laila Vasquez belted a two-run homer to help Lamesa capture a 4-2 game-three playoff victory over Shallowater. Another Vasquez homer on Friday gave the Golden Tornadoes something to cheer about early in the Region I-3A semi-final game against Holliday at Abilene Christian University. Vasquez’s solo blast in the bottom half of the first inning cut the Eagles’ lead to 2-1. Unfortunately the Golden Tors didn’t have much to cheer about the remainder of the night as the Eagles captured a 9-3 win in the first game of a best-two-out-of-three series.
