Tennis season opens

Lamesa High School seniors Felipe Carnero and Mariah Rivas teamed up for a strong third-place finish in mixed doubles at last weekend’s season-opening tennis tournament at Denver City. Carnero and Rivas won their first two matches, beating teams from Lubbock All Saints, 7-5, and Lubbock’s Kingdom Prep, 7-2. They lost their final match to a private school out of Levelland, 6-2 and 6-3. “They’re two of our strongest players so we decided to put them together and see what they can do.
