A big second half last Saturday in the area round has the Sands Mustangs advancing to the regional quarterfinals in Class 1A girls basketball playoff action. Coach Ben Connell’s Mustangs knocked off the Lorenzo Hornettes, 65-42, at O’Donnell. It was only a four-point game at the half with the Mustangs up 28-24. Sands outscored the Hornettes, 37- 18, in the final two quarters. Sands, ranked 10th in the state, improved its season record to 26-2.
