Venna Nix

    Venna Lou Nix passed away on July 13, 2022, in Lamesa, Texas; she was 89. 
    A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Methodist Church of Lamesa on Saturday morning, July 23, at 11:00 with visitation to follow. Officiant will be Roger Nix of Tulsa, OK.
    Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
    She was born Venna Lou Morrisett on Sept. 6, 1932 in Oklahoma City, and lived in various towns in Oklahoma in her younger years, as her father remodeled and managed movie theaters. The family moved to Lamesa in 1947, where Venna’s parents opened Turner’s Cafe. Venna graduated from Lamesa High School, where she was voted Football Queen, and attended Texas Tech. 
    During her senior year in high school, she met her future husband, Garland G. Nix, also of Lamesa, and they were married in 1951. After 54 years of marriage, Garland passed away in 2005. In 2009, Venna married Dick Tune, who passed in 2015. 
    Venna was also preceded in death by her parents, Turner and Thelma Morrisett; her sister Cathie Jene’; and her daughter-in-law Carla Lutz Nix.
    Venna is survived by her four sons, Steve Nix and wife Julaine of Dallas, Dave Nix and wife Mitzi of Lamesa, Roger Nix and wife Donna of Tulsa, and Ron Nix and wife Patti of Lamesa. She is also survived by her sister Connie McGlothlin and husband Earl of Austin, as well as eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two nieces.
    Venna was a devoted wife and mother, who loved her life, her Lord, and her church, where she served on various boards and enjoyed singing in the choir. For many years, Venna did the bookkeeping for Nix Implement Company, the business she and Garland owned. She was also active in her community, serving on several boards, including the Lamesa School Board from 1972-74, as its first female member.
