Steve Stephens, Jr.

    John Springer “Steve” Stephens, Jr., 77 of Gail passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020.  
    He was born July 7, 1943 to John Springer and Katherine (Teeter) Stephens, Sr. in Lamesa.  He graduated from Borden County High School in 1961 and went on to attend San Angelo State, graduating from Texas Tech University in Range Management in 1966.  
    Steve married Carolyn Cross on May 30, 1964at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church in Big Spring, Texas. He worked as a cotton farmer and cattle rancher in Borden and Lynn County all of his life.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church in O’Donnell where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years, Lay leader, and certified Lay speaker.
    Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Carolyn; children, Stephanie Stephens of Borden County and John Stephens, III and wife Lori of Lubbock; sister, Pamala Reeder of Ruidoso, New Mexico; grandchildren, Chelsea McDonald and husband Tyler and their son Jett, Colton Stephens and Dylan Stephens.
    He is preceded in death by his grandparents, George L. and Callie (Moore) Stephens, Sr. and Walter Edward and Marie (James) Teeter, and parents, John and Katherine Stephens, Sr.
    Open visitation will be held Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Combest Family Funeral Homes, O’Donnell. Masks will be required for the visitation.  
    Services will be private for family officiated by Fernando Sanchez and eulogy by Trey Gerdes of Waco; however, the graveside will be public at Gail Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2020. 
    Pallbearers will be Colton Stephens of Lubbock, Dylan Stephens of Lubbock, Brad Williams of O’Donnell, Scott Brewer of O’Donnell, Hank Gerdes of Austin, and Courtney Stewart of O’Donnell.
