Roy Byrd

    Funeral service for Roy Odis Byrd, 83, of Lamesa will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Jon Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Dawson County Cemetery. 
    Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. 
    Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
    Roy passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 in Odessa, Texas surrounded by his loving family.  
    He was born June 6,1938 in Lamesa, TX to Walter Otis and Dolores (Clifft) Byrd. He married Marylyn Cox March 4, 1961, in Lamesa, TX. They were married for 60 years. Roy served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1962.  He received his master’s degree as a counselor.  
    Roy held different jobs during his lifetime. He was employed as a counselor for MHMR in Lamesa, was a coordinator for the Lamesa Head Start program at West Texas Opportunities, and business administrator at First Baptist Church in Lamesa.  Roy’s last ministry he enjoyed was funeral assisting at Branon Funeral Home, where he will be greatly missed by all the community. 
    He enjoyed working on his yard with his lovely wife, Marylyn.  Roy loved the Lord, loved his country, and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church most of his life.
    Roy is survived by his wife Marylyn of Lamesa, TX.; daughters, Michelle Northam and husband, Blake of Kenya, Africa and Meggan Warren and husband, Jon of Portland; grandchildren, Jake Warren and wife, Sasha, Heath Warren, Audrey Warren, M’Lynn Waruhiu and husband, Allan, Bethany Ramsey and husband, Barton, and Becca Hines and husband, Calvin; and  great-grandchildren, August, Leo, Anaiya, Ezekiel, Ezra, Naomi, Noah, Meriam, Gabriel, Clara and Griffin. 
    Roy was preceded in death by his parents.
