Robert O. Vela

    Robert O. Vela, 72, of Lamesa passed away Friday, October 14, 2022, in Lamesa surrounded by his loved ones. 
    He was born November 6, 1949, in Lamesa, Tx, to Rogelio “Roy” Vela, Sr. and Maria Ogeda Vela. Per his wishes he will be laid to rest at a later time in Colorado.
    Robert married Mary Fay in Lamesa on September 1, 1967, they were married 55 years. 
    He was a hardworking man since he began his life’s work as a farmer, before going into the oil field industry working many years for Key Trucking. He then went to work for the City of Lamesa up until his passing. Robert enjoyed camping, spending time with his family and loved his pugs, which he had very spoiled. He loved everyone unconditionally in his own way and raised his children to be very independent, work hard, and always be there for each other. He will always be remembered for his dry humor.
    Robert is survived by his wife, Mary of Lamesa; children, Sabrina Luna and husband Sam of Lubbock, and Kevin Vela of Lamesa; sisters, Eloisa Contreras of Lamesa, Rita Martinez and husband Manuel of Bledsoe, Elia Rendon and husband Benjamin of Lamesa, Elizabeth Rodriquez and husband Gilbert of New Deal, Trinee Enriquez and husband Ruben of Lamesa, and Rosa Torres and husband Frank of Lamesa; brothers, Jesse Vela of Odessa, Joe Vela and wife Lupe of Lamesa, and Roy Vela, Jr. and wife Margarita of Lamesa; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved spending time with.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carmen Gaitian, and nephew, Rosendo Gaitian.
