Richard “Rick” Mooney

    Richard “Rick” Eugene Mooney, 70, passed from this life on Monday, July 11, 2022, in Sheffield, Texas. 
    A longtime resident of Texas, Rick was born in Midland on November 24, 1951, to Bobby Joe and Betty (Davis) Mooney. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1970 and later attended Odessa College with studies in Criminal Justice. Rick worked in the Permian Basin oil field industry for many years and later as a Government Trapper for the State of Texas. 
    Rick had a passion for outdoor living and animals which he shared with his daughters and their families. He was a true cowboy at heart; he loved ranching, hunting and fishing throughout Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. He valued his friendships throughout his life and thought of them more as family members than as friends.
    Rick accepted Christ as his savior as a young man. He attended First Baptist Church of Lamesa growing up with his parents and brothers. He and his wife were currently attending Mother Homes Baptist Church, in Sheffield.
    Rick was married to Malissa Deanna Kirkfield of Sheffield, Texas, on October 19, 2013. Rick & Malissa found each other later in life and lived each day greatly appreciating the love and friendship they had for each other. 
    Rick is survived by his wife, Malissa of Sheffield, Texas; mother, Betty Mooney of Lamesa; brother, Robert Wade Mooney of O’Donnell; daughters, Amanda Hope Pulliam and husband, Keith Pulliam of Midland; Sara Diane McKandles and husband, David McKandles of Midland; granddaughters, Aubrey Clair Pulliam and Cora Gray McKandles; aunt, Javonna Sue Maynard of Powell, Ohio. 
    Preceded in death by his father, Bob Joe Mooney; brother, Russell Allen Mooney; infant brother, David Brian Mooney; infant son, William Eli Mooney; grandparents, Alice and Eli Mooney, Alma and Fred Davis; and uncle, Robert F. Maynard.   
    A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022, 1:00 pm, at The Studio on Main, 219 N Main Street, Lamesa TX, 79331, with refreshments to follow. A memorial service will be held in Sheffield, Texas on July 18, 2022, 1:00 pm, at Mother Homes Baptist Church, located at 103 N Main Street, Sheffield, Texas, 79781, with Don Jackson officiating.
