Raymond Van

Funeral services for Raymond Albert Van, 99, of Lamesa, were held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Branon Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Medley officiating.

Interment followed at Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Raymond passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 in Lamesa. He was born on July 30, 1919 to John Benjamin Van and Jennie Lentz Van in Hugo, Oklahoma.

He served four years in the National Guard of the United States. He married Nancy Snell on October 24, 1940 in Paris, Texas. He was a lifelong farmer in the Patricia area. He enjoyed collecting coins, arrowheads and fishing. But his favorite pastime was sitting on the front porch in his swing.

Raymond is survived by his children, Elizabeth Joan of Celina, Texas, Veda Jane Cheaney and husband, Bennie, of Phoenix, Arizona, John Walter Van and wife, LaJean, of Lamesa, Texas and Ralph Terry Van and wife, Lisa, of Wortham, Texas; grandchildren, Van, Bryan, Tracy, Stacy, Kurtis, Michael, Jacob, Noah, MaKayla and MaKenzie; sister, Rose Van of Dallas; brother, Dewy Van and wife, Faye, of Garland, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; six sisters; two brothers; two half-sisters; and a great-granddaughter.
