Rafael Cavazos

    Rafael Cavazos, a much loved and devoted husband, passed from this life and into his eternal rest on January 2, 2022 at the age of 81 years and 4 months. 
    He was born on September 3, 1940 in Cuero, TX., to Francisco and Petra Sanchez Cavazos. 
    He met and married Esperanza Balli on November 18, 1963, in Brownfield and they built their life together in Welch, TX. 
    He was a farmer with a passion for people, which led him to share the fruits of his labor with everyone that he knew. He never met a stranger, and his home and arms were always open to family and friends who would come for a visit. 
    He was a man of great Faith and a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Lamesa. 
    He is preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers Rey, Juan, Frank, Tomas, Gilbert, Leonardo and Jose; four sisters Inez Ybarra, Sarah Avalos, Maggie Trevino, and Carlota Trevino. He is also preceded in death by a nephew Jose Cavazos, Jr. 
    He is survived by his wife of 58 years; a son, Jose Mireles of Lamesa; 2 grandsons Ivan and Joseph; and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 
    Honoring Rafael as his pallbearers are, Jose Cavazos III, Frank Cavazos, Tommy Cavazos, Leonardo Cavazos, Robert Paul Vasquez, Anthony John.
    A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Gonzales Funeral Home in Lamesa. Funeral Mass service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Chacko Thadathil officiating, followed by internment at Dawson County Cemetery.
    Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
