Rachel Franco Zarate

    Rachel Franco Zarate departed this earthly life on August 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving sons and the comforting embrace of her faith. 
    She leaves a legacy of love, compassion and devotion that will forever resonate within the hearts of those blessed to know her.
Under the guidance of the Gonzales Funeral Home, the Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. on August 6. A 10:00 a.m. Catholic funeral Mass Celebration services for Rachel was held Monday, August 7, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Chacko Thadathil officiating and followed by the graveside at Dawson County Cemetery.
    Rachel was born on February 16, 1950, in Karnes City, Texas. She was the 7th child of 10 born to Erasmo and Maria Franco. Rachel married the love of her life Willie Zarate in 1969. She dedicated her days to caring for her family and cooking her way into many hearts. She lived to do for her sons Damian and Kristy of Lubbock, Adrian of Ackerly, and Nathan of Lubbock.         
    Her greatest joy came with grandchildren Haley Carrillo, Brandon Zarate, Nicholas Zarate, and her “little one,” Mason Zarate.
    She is also survived by her sisters, Orelia “Yaya” Ortiz, Manuela Ancira, and Linda James, and brother Ray Franco all of Lubbock.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willie; brother Robert Franco; brother Isreal Franco; brother Ismael Franco; brother Albert Franco; and sister Fidelfa “FeFe” De Los Santos all of Ackerly.
    Pallbearers are Brando Zarate, Nicholas Zarate, Martin Diaz, Augie Ramirez, Marcus Rocha and Kevin Ortiz. Honorary pallbearer is Mason Zarate.
    Rachel was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. She enjoyed many things, like listening to music, watching novellas, and playing Paco with her family. She had an infectious smile, and her laugh was magical. Rachel spent much time with family around the table, teasing one another, filling the room with stories and happiness.       
    The fond memories, laughter, and love she shared will continue to bring comfort and strength to those who knew her.
