Patsy Hackney

    Patsy John Edwards Hackney, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas. 
    Visitation will be held Friday, January 28th at 6:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. The service will be held Saturday, January 29th at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Lamesa, Texas with Brian Pinkerton officiating. Burial will follow to Dawson County Cemetary. 
    Patsy John Edwards Hackney was born on January 22nd, 1933 to parents John Andy and Charlie Edwards. She grew up in O’Donnell, TX where she attended school through her Junior year. She then transferred to Abilene High School where she graduated in 1950. She then received her Bachelor of Science from Hardin-Simmons in 1953. 
    She began her teaching career in 1955 when she taught elementary through middle school in Lamesa, TX. Patsy retired in 1997 after teaching for 42 years. For some families, she taught up to three generations. 
    Patsy was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and held Bible studies for many years. When she was able, her favorite things to look forward to were quilting, playing cards, and drinking coffee with her friends.
    Patsy, “Gram”, loved the Lord and loved the Bible. She loved sharing scriptures with all of her kids. She loved her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids more than anything. She took advantage of spending time with them every minute that she could.
    Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, John Andy and Charlie Edwards; sisters, Joyce Gibson and Edna Carroll. 
    Survivors include her son, Andy Hackney, and wife, Janeen; grandson, Kaden Goodell, and wife, Cathrine; grandson, John Hackney; daughter, Julie Davis Hackney; grandson, John Dalton Davis, and fiance’, Maya Cantu; granddaughter, Audra Rose Davis; greatgrandchildren, Caroline Goodell, Harper Claire Goodell, and Liam River Davis; sister, Julia Kendall, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
