Marilyn Phillips

    Marilyn Carlile Phillips (87) passed to her eternal life on January 6, 2021 in Lamesa, Texas. 
    She was born to Roy Bolen Carlile and Willie Viola McGuire Carlile on February 17, 1933 in Foss, Oklahoma. Marilyn was the sixth of nine children.  
    In 1941, Marilyn and her siblings moved to West Texas following the death of their parents.  She attended schools in Seminole and Lamesa. She met Dee Phillips, her one and only, in Lamesa where they were married on December 22, 1949. Dee departed this life on January 6, 2015.  They celebrated their 65th Anniversary two weeks before his death.
    In the late 50’s and early 60’s Marilyn was known by many young girls as their Girl Scout Leader.  Whether participating in exercise class, playing table games, Garden Club, coffee at McDonald’s, attending “55 & Alive” or just getting together with her friends, she loved to socialize. Marilyn had a passion for reading and especially enjoyed reading her Bible, Christian books and fiction novels.
    While working as a receptionist for Drs. Puckett and Strahan and before retiring with Dr. Somchai Chong. Marilyn made many friends in the community.
    Marilyn loved her church family. She was known as a hugger. A faithful member of the Church of Christ she taught Sunday school for many years at the downtown Church of Christ. Second grade was always her favorite.
    Besides Aunt Marilyn she was called either Aunt Sweetie or Aunt Murty by her numerous nieces and nephews. She was known as Nanne to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. And she jokingly requested that her girls call her “Darling, Precious, Sweetheart, Angel Mother”.
    She is survived by her daughters Pamela Huse (Vernon), June Cartwright (Gary), Redempta Thurmond (Ken); her grandchildren, Brandon Huse (Susan), Brooke Lee (Trevor), Brock Cartwright (Jacqua), Brace Huse (Katie), Brody Cartwright (Kelley), Braun Cartwright (Ashley), Brenn Cartwright, Breck Thurmond (Victoria), Brant Thurmond; great grandchildren, Saige Lee, Carli Ogburn (Preston), Jaden Huse (Payton), Swaize Lee, Cason Cartwright(Chianne), Hunter Huse, Camden Huse, Chaley Cartwright, Reagan Cartwright, Cambrie Huse, Avery Cartwright, Kynley Cartwright, Corbin Huse, Dawson Cartwright, Kennedy Thurmond, baby boy Thurmond due April 2021; her youngest sister, Redempta Ramsey (Glenn) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and her beloved sisters-in-law, Doris Kirkland, Dot Carlile, and Gloria Carlile.
    Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Viola Carilile, her husband, Dee Phillips; brothers, Roy A. Carlile, Billy Don Carlile, Joe Carlile, Lonnie Carlile; sisters; Wanda Carlile, June Pence, and Joye Crim.
    The family will hold a private service, Sunday, January 10, 2021. Officiating will be her grandsons. 
    Viewing will be held Saturday from 9 am to 8 pm and Sunday morning from 9 am to 12 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. There will be no formal visitation.
     Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. 
    The family is requesting no food or visits at this time.  We love and appreciate your kindness but due to COVID we will not be gathering.
