Lucy Ybanez

    With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our Mother, Lucia (Lucy) Ybanez. She left us on Saturday, April 25, 2020. 
    Lucy, age 86, formerly of Lamesa, Texas was born to Martin and Naverta (Alvarado) Cabrera on December 9, 1933, in Oakville, Texas. She was one of eight children. 
    Lucy was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as a Momo. She loved to sew, cook, dance, and was very talented at crocheting. 
    Lucy was honored to be one of the first teachers for the initial Head Start program in Lamesa. Her love for teaching continued as an employee for Lamesa ISD for 19 years as a bilingual teaching assistant. She owned and operated an antique shop “The Decorative Iron Corner” for a short while and later became a home caregiver for many residents. 
    One of Lucy’s passions was being a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed helping young girls in our community. Lucy joined the Medical Arts Auxiliary in 2003 and received her 15-year pin in 2018. She was a faithful and supportive member of the “Pink Ladies.” 
    Our Mother had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went. All who loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace, and underlying love and care she had for them. She will always be remembered and remain in our hearts. 
    Lucy is survived by her children, Nora Hogg and husband, Jeff, Sara Dodson and husband, Blane; and Dorthy Archer all of Lamesa; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.
    Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; 7 siblings; son Larry Ybanez; daughter, Ruth Ellen Ybanez; great-grandson Avyn Kaine; sons-in-law, Ricky Archer and Royce Nance.
