Keith McCormick

Keith McCormick, 85, of Waco and Snyder, Texas passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at his home with his wife and three children alongside. A graveside service will take place at a future date at Hillside Memorial Gardens cemetery in Snyder. Keith will be remembered for his
humorous personality, his example of generosity, and his active Christian faith.
Albert Keith, the fifth son of six children, was born at the family home seven miles west of Snyder on January 10, 1939, to Claude and Violet McCormick. From an early age he worked in the family business, McCormick & Sons Oil Co. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1957 and attended Abilene Christian College where he studied business. After dating for three-plus years, he married his high school sweetheart, Freida Melton, on March 31, 1960. In May 1961, Keith graduated from Abilene Christian and the young married couple discovered that Lamesa, Texas would be their home for the next three decades. Keith partnered with his brother Beecher in McCormick Oil Co., a Phillips 66 jobbership serving multiple markets in West Texas. The brothers owned service stations in area communities and also provided fuel, bulk lubricants, and propane to gins, oil field operations, and area farmers. In addition, Keith had cotton farm interests and served on the board of directors for several newspapers in the Roberts Publishing Co. of Andrews, Texas. Keith served as deacon at the North 14th Street Church of Christ in Lamesa where he taught teenagers for over 30 years and participated in mission trips to Jamaica and Trinidad.
In 1991, the brothers sold McCormick Oil Co. and Keith and Freida moved to Abilene, Texas shortly thereafter. While in Abilene, he served as an elder at the Hillcrest Church of Christ – the same church the couple attended while Keith finished college. They lived in Salado, Texas for a short time where Keith served as an elder with the Salado Church of Christ. As an elder, he visited congregations in Mexico supported by the Salado church and praised  the hospitality of the local church members. In return, he and Freida hosted several Mexican ministers in their home during their visits to the Salado church. Keith and Freida ultimately moved to Waco, Texas to be closer to their youngest grandchildren.
Keith is survived by his wife of 64 years, Freida, his brother C.E. McCormick, Jr. of Kerrville and sister, Linda McCormick Heath of Salado. He is survived by children Bret McCormick and wife Teri of Bentonville, Arkansas; Dee Ann McCormick of Copperas Cove, Texas; and Blaine McCormick and wife Sarah of Waco. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Clint McCormick, Whitney McCormick Jackson and husband Blake, Payton McCormick and wife Shelby, Ellis McCormick and wife Kate, Miriam McCormick, and Beatrice McCormick. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren along with many nieces and one nephew on the McCormick side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Violet, brothers Bobby and wife Billie, Beecher, Bill and wife JoAnn, sister-in-law Barbara, nephew Mark and wife Janie McCormick, and Lane Shaw, husband of niece Marilyn Shaw.
