Joe Clifton ‘Cliff’ Cathey

    Graveside service for Joe Clifton (Cliff) Cathey will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Dawson County Cemetery with Kalith Brown and Truman Hayes officiating.  
    Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Branon Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the care of Branon Funeral Home.
    Joe Clifton “J.C.” Cathey, 89, of Checotah, passed away on June 3, 2021 at his home. 
    J.C. was born on June 28, 1931 in O’Donnell, Texas to Tom Dick and Alice (Hanes) Cathey. He graduated from Dawson Schools in 1950. On June 22, 1951, J.C married Billie Francis Mathis. They were happily married for fifty-eight years, before she preceded him in death on December 5, 2009. 
    He enlisted in the United States Army on January 20, 1953 and was honorably discharged on November 2, 1954. While serving in the Army, J.C. received the Korean Service War Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Medical Badge, and a Purple Heart. 
    He was a farmer and a school maintenance worker. J.C. was a member of the Young Farmers Club and Lions Club. He lived in Welch, Texas for eighty-one years and in Eufaula for the last nine years. J.C. was a member of the Church of Christ.
    Survivors include: his son, Gene Cathey and wife, Janice, of Amarillo, TX; two daughters: Debra Taylor and husband, Bobby, of Eufaula, OK; and Donna Stone, of Lubbock, TX; six grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. 
    He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Alice Cathey; wife, Billie Cathey; sister, Pauline Hughes, and infant brother, Thomas Cathey.
