Joe Ben Hernandez
Funeral services for Joe Ben Hernandez, 81, of Lamesa will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Northridge Methodist Church with Pastor Manuel Salazar and Irene Salazar officiating.
Interment will follow in Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2021 at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.
Ben passed away Friday, May 28, 2021, in Lubbock.
He was born July 14, 1939, in Lytton Springs, Texas to Ambrosio and Petra (Tijerina) Hernandez. He married Virginia M. Hernandez December 27, 1959, in Lamesa. She preceded him in death in 1993. On January 16, 1999 he married Mary Hernandez, she preceded him in death in 2017.
In 1957, he enlisted in the National Guard and became a Sergeant for over 10 years. Ben farmed most of his life yet worked several jobs. He worked for Lamesa ISD as a janitor and then worked as a salesman and carpenter for Joe Carroll Hansen Builders. Later in life he became an insurance agent for American National Insurance and retired after 20 years of service. Lastly, he worked at Northridge Retirement Center as the maintenance man.
Ben had a quick wit, enjoyed sharing funny jokes, enjoyed woodworking and farming. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Ben is survived by his children, Alexander Hernandez and wife, Grace of Lubbock, Ben Hernandez and wife, Liz of Midland, Noel Hernandez of Lubbock, and Joe Angel Hernandez and wife, Josie of Lubbock; sister, Juanita Arocha and husband, Scott of Georgetown; brothers, Modesto Hernandez and wife, Olivia of Lubbock, Manuel Hernandez and wife, Connie of Hutto; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Hernandez; sister, Louisa Villarreal; and brother, Celedonio Hernandez.
