Arthur Jackson (Jack) Cohorn went to rest with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at his home in Lamesa, Texas. He was 83.
Jack was born on April 4, 1940, in Sinton Texas to Marshall and Annie Lou (Cline) Cohorn and moved to Lamesa when he was one. He grew up in Lamesa and loved it in every way. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1958 and married his high school sweetheart Beth Johnson in 1964 in the First United Methodist Church, Lamesa, Texas. They were married for 42 years.
Jack started farming in 1959 and farmed cotton in Dawson and Gaines counties for 32 years. He was on the Lamesa Coop Gin Board of Directors for 16 years. He and Beth enjoyed traveling around the country attending meetings and conventions to support and promote the cotton industry. Up until his death he oversaw the land interests of Cohorn Farms.
From a lack of something to do in retirement he worked for the prison system for 10 years. He was a role model for the young people there and tried to help them get rehabilitated through his friendship and Christian love.
One of Jack’s most memorable quotes was “Every breathe we take belongs to God.” Jack was truly the salt of the earth. He was a devout Christian man who was humble and kind to everyone. He had a warm, loving personality, quick wit, and never met a stranger. Being a born farmer, he enjoyed not only growing cotton, but growing gourds, zinnia’s, sunflowers, and poppies for fun. He loved to plant seeds and watch them grow. We will miss his beautiful Christmas amaryllises that he gave for presents every year.
He truly understood and enjoyed the simple things in life and reminded us often that all of his blessings came from above. He loved to travel and see the countryside on the many family vacations that he took, and would talk about God’s natural beauty everywhere that he went. Jack enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and watching all of their activities.  John and Elizabeth will always cherish the time he spent with them. He also loved and enjoyed spending time with Raymond Witte, his dear best friend of 65 years.
Jack is survived by his daughter Rachelle Cohorn of Dallas, Texas, his son Darrick Cohorn of Dallas, Texas and his two loving grandchildren, Elizabeth Cohorn, and John Cohorn: brother Alvin Cohorn and wife Marsha.
He is preceded in death by his wife Beth Johnson Cohorn; his parents and sisters, Gwen Williams, Linda Meek; and a brother, Leon Cohorn.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Methodist Church, 409 N 3rd St., Lamesa, Texas 79331. To send condolences online, please visit www.branonfuneralhome.com.
